From personal experience, I can attest to the truth of this article and some readers' testimonies. Depression is caused to an extent by the work of bad intestinal bacteria. Eating raw garlic several times daily for a few months effectively destroys the bad bacteria and promotes the good ones. One's mood improves dramatically.

I also believe depression can be caused in varying extent by the influence of evil spirits. However if one's GI tract is cleansed and strong through eating garlic, these evil spirits have less chance of affecting one. In fact historically garlic is said to chase away vampires. Nowadays such a tale is laughed at by so-called scientific people. But the truth may be stranger than fiction.

Anyway, conscientiously eating raw garlic daily brings sunshine into one's life. Eat garlic also to resolve any intestinal disorders including IBS and IBD. And do supplement it with safe tonic herbs like White Oak Bark to repair and tone up your GI tract if your IBS or IBD has been a long-standing one.

I am amazed at these storys !! Yes, I feel the same way!! I was watching the DR OZ show, and a woman said she Snorted garlic juice for her sinnus problems and it worked 100%. I have had terrible problems with my sinnus for years. It would leave me bed ridden for days and then turn into a secondary infection. So,..I pressed some ORGANIC garlic and snorted it....WOW thats a hoot!! I swore I'd never do it again,..but my sinnus cleared up in 2 hours and I had energy like I havent had in years. So I snorted again a few days later....I feel "GOOD" really good. I want to do things, walk, work, run jump, I just have tons of energy. I used to have to take a nap after dinner , I was always drained and had lost all my stamina and my body seemed heavy and sluggish. I LOVE this new lease on life, plus it chasses your depression away completley....YAAAAhhhhh. Iget sort of an all day high from it, and I love it and need it. I use to be an alcholic and have been bitchy ever since I stopped driking....not anymore..LOL. It does have a down side for me that I have to watch...it makes me more agressive sexually....could be a good thing at my age LOL. Cheers every one!!!

I eat raw garlic a couple of times a week. I've noticed that it opens up my sinuses and gives me a mild feeling of relaxation/euphoria (but no tiredness). Also, if I feel a cold coming on I eat a couple of cloves and that feeling goes away. I would advise anyone curious about the health benefits of garlic to eat some. Your first time will likely be TORTURE...seriously, not only does it have a potent flavor but it has such a powerful heat...I don't know that it's hotter than, say, a serano pepper...but it's a weird powerful sort of heat that is pretty overwhelming. Anyway, the more often you eat it the easier it gets and it definitely feels like it has a positive effect on me.

I have a long history of depression and insomnia. I notice that when I eat raw garlic, I sleep like a rock and experience mild euphoria. If there is no down side, and I experience benefit, I will try the garlic supplements.

Garlic has been shown to have antidepressant effects. It is an MAOI and affects GABA in some way.

Sylvia: I've been taking Allicinmax capsules (garlic derivative) in order to try to rid myself of any infections that may be hampering me and I find it makes me feel depressed. I've tried it a few times so I can compare how I feel when I'm not taking it to how I feel when I am. I wonder whether it's because the garlic is fighting something. I keep stopping taking it because I'd rather not feel depressed but then I think if it is fighting something I should really battle it head on. I'd be interested if anyone has more info too!
